Fire in forests put off.
Jammu, April 17: Homeguards/ Civil Defence Volunteers averted a major fire tragedy in Maha Maya Mata Forest area near Rajiv Basti on 16.04.2006 during night hours. On getting message from PCR Jammu, Civil Defence Wardens/ Volunteers were informed accordingly, Civil Defence Wardens team headed by Shri Paramjeet Kumar, Deputy Chief Warden, Shri J.I. Sharma Divisional Warden, Shri Shashi Kohli Divisional Warden and number of other volunteers regarding the place of incident. Volunteers Homeguards who were undergoing training at CTI Jammu numbering about 30 also reached on the spot. Volunteers were able to reach even inaccessible areas where fire brigade could not go. The fire broke out at around 22:10 hours and was brought under control at around 02:30 hours due to the efforts of wardens and volunteers of Civil Defence/ Homeguards besides other agencies like fire and emergency services, police and public.
Shri S.M. Khatotra, Divisional Commandant Homeguards Jammu, Shri Mohd Taj Area Commander Homeguards, Jammu, Ms. Manjeet Kour, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Jammu supervised the rescue and fire control operation.
