SH.YOGINDER KOUL, IPS IGP HG/CD & SDRF J&K HELD A DARBAR OF OFFICERS/ OFFICIALS OF SDRF 2ND BN. AT JAMMU

On 19-06-2012, a darbar of SDRF 2nd Bn. officers/officials was held at SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu which was also attended by Sh.Sham Lal Sharma, IPS DIG HG/CD & SDRF Jammu, Sh.Gh.Sarwar Chouhan, SSP Commandant SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu, Sh.S.K.Bakshi, Dy.SP, Sh.Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Dy.SP, Sh.Ajay Kumar, Dy.SP of SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu and Sh.Parveen Singh, Dy.SP, Area Commander Homeguards Jammu. During the darbar, participants were informed that since nomenclature of the then Aux. Police has been changed into SDRF thereby nature of duties has also been changed and to justify existence SDRF has to make foundation very strong which can only be achieved by undergoing short term periodic training course chalked out by Disaster Management Authorities and Headquarters for various anticipated Natural/ Man-made disasters so that we are ready to face any challenge during such disasters in rescuing victims and injured after major Earthquakes, Accidental fires, Road accident, Avalanches, Floods & Bomb blasts etc. Every member of the SDRF is to be properly trained to respond in a special manner with all available tools and equipments. Sh.Sham Lal Sharma, IPS DIG HG/CD & SDRF Jammu threw light on the activities and role of SDRF during disasters and stressed for performing all kinds of duties as and when assigned to them with enthusiasm and dedication. Sh.Gh.Sarwar Chouhan, SSP Commandant SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu gave brief of battalion activities and assured to fulfill desired expectations of the senior officers. After darbar a round of SDRF complex, office block and CTI building under construction was taken by IGP, besides the functioning of Rescue Vehicle was observed which was found operational.


 

 

STATE DISASTER RESPONSE FORCE (SDRF) ROLE LAUDED FOR RESCUE OPERATION IN TRAGIC ACCIDENT AT RAMBAN

On 14-7-2012, one SRTC Bus bearing No.JK02Y-0382 carrying Amarnath ji yatries from Srinagar to Jammu rolled down into 200 feet deep Gorge at Digdol near Ramban. The SDRF team stationed at Ramban rushed to the spot alongwith rescue vehicle and launched rescue/evacuation operation. During rescue operation, injured persons were rescued and shifted to district Hospital Ramban. During the operation 15 dead bodies were also evacuated by SDRF rescue team. “Had the rescue operation been delayed because of non presence of well equipped and trained SDRF staff, the death toll might be more.” Official sources disclosed that there should be three components of SDRF teams one each stationed at Batote, Banihal and Ramban keeping in view increased road accidents in Ramban district particularly on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Divisional and District Administration also appreciated the role played by State Disaster Response Force.


 

 

A MEETING ON DISASTER MITIGATION WAS CONVENNED WITH NDMA MEMBER AT SRINAGAR

A meeting in order to overcome the problems faced during any natural and manmade disasters and to discuss and chalk out healthy mechanism for saving precious humane life and property, was held on 19-5-2012 under the Chairmanship of Member National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India, Dr. Muzaffar Ahmad. The meeting discussed about the precautionary measures to be taken to meet any possible disaster whether natural or manmade disasters. The meeting was attended by Sh. Yoginder Kaul, IPS IGP, HG/CD & SDRF J&K, Sh. S. Afadul Mujtaba, IPS DIG Kashmir, Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Joint Commissioner, SMC, Mr. Fayaz Ahmad Bala, Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Joint Director Fire and Emergency Services, Mr. R T Dubey, Coordinator Disaster Management Committee, Kashmir, Mr. Aamir Ali Mir and officers of Revenue and IMPA. The Hon’ble member asked the Civil Defence officials to act on instructions of Disaster Management Authority and also stressed for gearing up activities to meet the challenges during any natural calamity. He asked the Disaster Management Committee members to utilize the services of trained people so that precious lives and property can be saved without any hurdle. He also asked the Director Health Services for establishing two operation centers on modern lines so that these centres can provide better services to the victims. Meanwhile, Dr. Muzaffar also assured the State Disaster Management Authority for providing every possible help. He also stressed upon the engineers for utilizing quality material besides soil testing for construction of buildings. He also emphasized upon the concerned officers who are organizing awareness camps and are holding seminars in colleges, schools and universities for providing information to student community about the precautionary measures to be taken in case of any emergency situation. He also stressed upon authorities to conduct regular mock drills.


 

 

IQBAL MEMORIAL INSTITUTE, BEMINA SRINAGAR HOSTS DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AWARENESS CUM TRAINING CAMP

On 19-5-2012, One day disaster preparedness training was organized at Iqbal Memorial Institute for Girls Bemina, Srinagar by J&K Institute of Management & Public Administration (IMPA) in association with Civil Defence, Divisional Disaster Management Authority and Fire & Emergency Services Kashmir. More than 900 students from class 1st to class 12th were sensitized during the training programme. Dr. G.M. Dar, Associate Professor, Disaster Management Centre IMPA explained the basics of Disaster Management to the staff members and students of the Institute. Shri Aamir Ali, Coordinator Divisional Disaster Management explained about various initiatives for school safety, taken by Divisional Administration under the leadership of Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon,IAS Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. Shri Abdul Ahad Mir and Shri S.A Beig from Fire and Emergency Services spoke about fire safety and its precautions and also demonstrated various fire safety equipments available with the department. Shri Abdul Gaffar and Shri Aijaz Ahmed CD trainers deputed by Shri Rafiq Ahmed, Deputy Controller, Civil Defence Srinagar explained basics on first aid for school safety. The chairman of the school Dr Yusuf-ul-Umar, Principal, Peerzada Nisar Ahmed and School Site Engineer Shri Farooq Ahmed were present on the occasion. A fire mock drill was also held and the children were taught how to use fire extinguisher.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE JAMMU ORGANISED AWARENESS CAMP AT PURKHOO JAMMU

On 04-06-2012, Civil Defence Jammu organized one day awareness camp at Jamwal Group of Education Purkhoo Jammu under the command of Sh.Dushyant Sharma,Dy.SP, Dy.Controller CD Jammu. During the camp about 250 workers/staff members participated. The main aim of the awareness camp was to facilitate workers/staff members with regard to role and responsibilities of Civil Defence during disasters. The services of instructors of CTI HG/CD Jammu were also utilized to conduct the demonstration on rescue operations.

The darbar was attended by Sh. Gh. Sarwar Chauhan, SSP Commandant SDRF IInd. Bn. Jammu, Sh. Chanderjeet Singh, Bn. Adjutant, Sh. S. K. Bakshi, Dy. SP, Sh. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Dy. SP Quarter Master and Sh. Ajay Sharma Dy. SP, Staff and other members of SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu. In his address, the DIG emphasized upon the officers and Jawans to maintain utmost discipline and also adopt the changing circumstances as the nomenclature of SDRF warrants that the jawans and officers should be physically fit and professionally trained in order to face and manage unforeseen disasters. He also heard the grievances of the jawans and redressed the same on spot. Earlier the Commandant SDRF 2nd. Bn. Jammu welcomed the DIG HG/CD & SDRF Jammu and also briefed him about the activities of the Bn. Rank Pinning ceremony of recently promoted 29 HCs and 23 Sgcts was also held.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE NOWSHERA IMPARTED CD AWARENESS/ TRAINING AMONG THE NCC CADETS

Civil Defence Town Nowshera organized two days CD awareness camp at Nowshera on the request of Col.P.Y.Parbate, NCC Camp Comdt. Nowshera on 16th & 17th June 2012. About 500 NCC cadets participated in the camp and were briefed about the role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster. On the occasion Sh.Suresh Kumar, Dy.SP, I/C Dy.Contrloler CD Nowshera, Sh.R.P.Damral, Dy.Divisional Warden, Sh.Suraj Singh, Sector Warden delivered lectures on the Civil Defence activities and disaster management. A live demonstration of rescue operation and use of rescue equipments were also conducted by CD experts deputed from CTI HG/CD Jammu among the NCC cadets. Col.P.Y.Parbate appreciated the efforts of Civil Defence Town Nowshera.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANISATION, SRINAGAR IN COLLABORATION WITH J&K BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES ORGANISED A CAMP AT HAZRATBAL

On the occasion of Friday following Mehraj-u-Alam (SAW) on 22-6-2012, around 75 CD Volunteers alongwith 50 Boy Scouts assisted the district administration in facilitating the pilgrims as well as traffic management. They also distributed sweets and refreshment amongst the common people. The CD Team was led by Shri Mohammed Rafiq Deputy Controller CD Srinagar, Sh.Aamir Ali, Deputy Chief Warden Srinagar, Sh.Shabir Ahmed Khan ASI (M), Syed Abid, Imran Khan, Shri Muzaffar Tramboo and Shri Rafiq Ahmed Baba.

A meeting of Civil Defence Senior wardens was held under the chairmanship of Sh.Yoginder Kaul, IPS IGP HG/CD & SDRF J&K in the Conference Hall of Regional Civil Defence Control Centre Jammu on 23-06-2012. A large number of Civil Defence Wardens including Sh.Jugal Mahajan, Chief Warden Jammu, Sh.Vinod Malhotra, Sh.Paramjit Kumar, Dy.Chief Wardens, Sh.Jia Lal Sharma, Sh.Kanta Bhan, Divisional Wardens, Sh.Rajinder Thapa, Dy.Divisional Warden were present on the occasion. Sh.Dushyant Sharma, Dy.SP Dy.Controller CD Jammu was also present in the meeting. The main aim of the meeting was to review the arrangements for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra duty -2012 which was scheduled to start w.e.f. 25-06-2012. The wardens were requested to assist the local police in order to make the Yatra more successful. It was decided, that the services of CD wardens/volunteers shall also be utilized in different places like Railways Station, Bus Stand, Airport & Yatri Bhawan Bhagwati Nagar Jammu etc. The CD wardens/volunteers were also directed to wear CD jackets and caps during their duty.


 

 

2ND BATCH OF SDRF PERSONNEL UNDERGONE ORIENTATION COURSE AT BN. HQ JAMMU

SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu successfully conducted Orientation Course for 2nd Batch of 86 SDRF personnel w.e.f. 25-6-2012 to 25-7-2012 at Bn. Hqrs. Jammu. During the orientation course, SDRF personnel were imparted basic training in disaster mitigation and management so that they are able to handle the situation properly during disasters. Guest lecturers from various departments were also invited to deliver their valuable lectures on Disaster Management among the trainees.


 

 

TWO DAY’S CIVIL DEFENCE TRAINING PROGRAMME ORGANIZED BY CD SRINAGAR

Two days Civil Defence training programme organized by CD Srinagar at Holy Shrine of Dargah Hazratbal Srinagar During the camp, Civil Defence Basic training was imparted to WAKF board employees of District Srinagar and also briefed about the Civil Defence activities during disaster. On the occasion, Sh.M.A.Ganai, IPS DIG HG/CD & SDRF Srinagar was also present and addressed the participants about the role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster.


 

 

TWO PERSONS WERE RESCUED FROM FLASH FLOOD BY SDRF/CD TEAM KATHUA

On 4-8-2012, SDRF/Civil Defence rescue team Kathua after receiving information from PCR Kathua regarding trapping of some people in flash flood in river Ujh launched rescue operation. During rescue operation one person namely Lyaqat Ali S/O Sh.Qasim Din R/O Bhamburwan was rescued. Likewise on 25-8-2012, Civil Defence Kathua rescue team also conducted rescue operation in river Ravi where a person namely Karan Dass S/O Sh.Kartar Chand R/O Basroop Pathankote was also rescued from flash flood. During the rescue operation, Chief Warden/Dy.Chief Warden and Sector warden alongwith CD volunteers took active part and made the rescue operation successful.


 

 

PROMOTION IN HG/CD & SDRF J&K

Smt.D.R.Doley Barman, IPS ADGP HG/CD & SDRF J&K alongwith Sh.Yoginder Koul, IPS IGP pinning rank to the newly promoted Inspector(M) Gh.Hassan Joo of this organization at Srinagar

Addl. Director General of Police, Home Guards, Civil Defence & State Disaster Response Force J&K Smt. D.R. Doley Barman,IPS promoted 165 SDRF personnel. The orders to this effect were issued vide Order Nos. 349, 350,352 & 353 of 2012 on 11th June. The promotees include two Sub Inspectors (M) to the rank of Inspector (M), two ASI (M) to SI (M), Twenty Head Constables to ASIs, 69 Sg. Cts to Head Constables, 06 Sgct(M) to HC (M) and 66 Constables to the rank of SGCts. It is the first instance that such huge number of personnel were promoted in State Disaster Response Force, Home Guards and Civil Defence J&K.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE SAMBA AND SDRF RESCUE TEAM LAUNCHED RESCUE OPERATION IN RIVER BASANTER

On 04-8-2012, Civil Defence Samba and SDRF rescue team launched rescue operation with the help of district Police in river Basanter Samba during which three persons were trapped and rescued in flash flood namely Sh. Bamambar Roud S/O Kirtan Roud R/O Orrissa, Sh.Tinku Dass S/O Roop Lal R/O Jharkhand and Sh.Sudesh Roud S/O Misbal Hasda R/O Jharkhan.

CIVIL DEFENCE KATHUA IMPARTED CD BASIC TRAINING AMONG STUDENTS

Civil Defence Kathua organized 05 Day’s CD Basic Training Camp at Govt. High School Gaiterwan Kathua w.e.f. 27-8-2012 to 31-8-2012 during which SSP Kathua was the chief guest. During the training period, CD volunteers were imparted training in fire-fighting, first aid and rescue operations during disasters by the SDRF and CTI instructors deputed from SDRF HQ and CTI HG/CD Jammu. On the occasion a live demonstration on rescue operation from higher building was also exhibited to make the trainees more confident. A large number of local people including Senior Citizens, Civil Defence Wardens/volunteers were present on the valedictory function of training camp arranged by Sh.Sandeep Singh, Post Warden CD Kathua.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE/HOMEGUADS & STATE DISASTER RESPONSE FORCE J&K ESTABLISHED FIRST AID CUM DISASTER MANAGEMENT CAMPS AT JAMMU AND KASHMIR DURING AMARNATH JI YATRA DUTY-2012.

During Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra -2012, 09 camps were established enroute in Kashmir valley- five camps from Baltal route i.e. Panjterni, Baltal base camp, Railpathri, Brarimarg & Sangam and four camps from Pahalgam route i.e. Nunwan Base camp, Chandanwari, Pissutop and Sheeshnag. Two Rescue vehicles were also deployed one each at Pahalgam and Baltal during entire yatra period. In these camps, 200 SDRF personnel and 100 VHGs were deployed with modern equipments in order to meet any eventuality during the yatra. The SDRF personnel also extend first aid facility to the needy persons during yatra and also helped old/ ailing pilgrims while climbing up and down during their journey. Meanwhile, Civil Defence camps were also established alongwith Ambulance & rescue equipments at Tourist Reception Centre Chann Arorian, Kathua, Chichi Mata Temple Samba, Ramban for providing first aid, awareness cum guidance to the yatries to help keep them ready for facing any eventuality during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. A large number of Yatris were rescued by the SDRF personnel at various places and First Aid/ medicines provided to them. The injured pilgrims after providing first aid were also shifted to the nearby Hospitals by the SDRF personnel.


 

 

NEWS IN BRIEF:

  • Srinagar : Valedictory function of five day’s disaster preparedness training programme was held by Civil Defence and Divisional Disaster Management Authority which culminated on 5-5-2012 at Government High School Panthachowk, Srinagar. The function was attended by a huge gathering, including number of high level dignitaries, school children and senior citizens. The Chief Guest was Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon,IAS on the occasion.
  • CTI HG/CD Jammu: Advance training courses for Homeguard volunteers were organized at Central Training Institute HG/CD Jammu w.e.f. 11-5-2012 to 09-6-2012 and 10-8-2012 to 08-9-2012 in which about 25 Homeguard volunteers were imparted training and passed successfully.
  • Udhampur: Three day’s Civil Defence awareness camp was organized at Moungri, Block Punchari of district Udhampur by CD Udhampur w.e.f. 14-5-2012 to 16-5-2012 in which about 1500 CD volunteers participated and were made aware about the role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster.
  • Kathua : On 20-5-2012, Civil Defence Rescue team Kathua under the supervision of Sh.Santokh Raj, Dy.SP Dy.Controller CD Kathua launched search operation in canal near Dayala chak Kathua and fished out dead body of a labour namely Shabaz Ali s/O Sh.Shamshad R/O Talapur District Saharanpur (UP) who drowned while taking bath in the river.
  • Kathua: On 22-5-2012, on receiving information regarding trapping of some labours in a well, Civil Defence/SDRF Kathua team rushed to the spot and launched rescue operation. During operation, two labourers were found trapped in 30 feet deep well were rescued successfully. Sh.Anil Kumar, SI, Sector warden Sh.Amarnath alongwith CD volunteers took active part in the rescue operation. Moreover, on 06-8-2012, CD rescue team Kathua also fished out the dead body of one person namely Sh.Varun Sharma S/O Sh.Tilak Raj R/O Gurah Mundian Hiranagar from the deep well near village Gurah Mundian Hiranagar.
  • Nowshera: On 26-5-2012, Civil Defence Nowshera organized one day awareness camp at Govt. High School Bajawan, Nowshera. About 110 students/staff members participated in the camp. On the occasion, Sh.Vaid Prakesh, Headmaster of the school was the chief guest. During the camp, Sh.R.P.Damral, Chief Warden delivered lecture on the topic “Earthquake” and briefed the participants about the role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster.
  • Civil Defence Srinagar’s instructors imparting CD training among the students of High School Natipora during 05 days CD training camp at Srinagar
    Srinagar: Civil Defence Srinagar organized five day’s disaster preparedness programme at Scholar’s High School Natipora, Srinagar which conclude on 06-6-2012. More than 100 students participated in the training programme. The Valedictory function was attended amongst others by Deputy Controller Shri Rafiq Ahmed, Director of the School, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, CD Trainers Abdul Gaffar, Mohammed Hussain, Ghulam Nabi, Syed Abid Hussain and Nusrat Wani.
  • Samba: Civil Defence Samba organized two CD awareness camps at Adarsh Vidya Peeth and National High School Samba on 6th and 7th June 2012 respectively. A large number of students / staff members of the school participated and were briefed about the role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster. Sh.Dharamvir Singh, Chief Warden briefed the participants about the loss of drinking alcohol and smoking.
  • Samba: Civil Defence Samba organized five day’s basic training camp at Supwal/Madhu Chack Samba w.e.f. 12-6-2012 in which about 60 volunteers participated. During the camp, participants were imparted training in first aid, fire fighting and Rescue operations. A live demonstration on rescue operation was also given by experts from CTI HG/CD Jammu.
  • Nowshera: Civil Defence town Nowshera organized two day’s Civil Defence awareness camp at Nowshera w.e.f. 16-06-2012 to 17-6-2012 in which about 200 civilians participated and were briefed about the activities of Civil Defence during disaster. A live demonstration on rescue operation was also given during the camp.
  • Kathua: On 22-6-2012, Civil Defence Kathua organized one day awareness camp at Lakhanpur in which about 370 civilian, wardens/Volunteers and Amarnath yatries participated. On the occasion, participants were briefed about the role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster. Dy.Controller CD Kathua and Chief/Dy.Chief wardens also delivered lectures on the occasion.
  • Rajouri: Civil Defence Rajouri organized 05 day’s CD Basic Training camp at Govt. High School Rajdhani, Thanamandi Rajouri w.e.f. 23-06-2012 to 27-06-2012. During the camp, 52 CD volunteers participated and were imparted Civil Defence Basic training in fire-fighting, first aid and rescue operations. A live demonstration on rescue operations were also conducted by the experts deputed from Central Training Institute HG/CD Jammu. Moreover, Rescue equipments which are used in different types of disasters were also demonstrated to the participants.
  • Kathua: On 26-6-2012, one day awareness camp was organized by CD Kathua at Govindsar Kathua during the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. During the camp about 200 truck drivers/ cleaners and truck owners participated in the camp and were awared about the activities of Civil Defence and its importance during disaster.
  • Akhnoor: On 02-7-2012, Civil Defence Akhnoor organized one day awareness camp at Akhnoor in which about 90 local people participated. On the occasion, Civil Defence training cheques were also distributed among the CD volunteers who underwent Basic CD training. Moreover, Sh.Dushyant Sharma, Dy.SP, I/C Dy.Controller CD Akhnoor also convened a meeting with local populace of village Pargwal and briefed them about the function and benefits of Siren installed at Pargwal, Akhnoor.
  • Jammu: On 13-7-2012, Dy.Controller CD Jammu Sh.Dushyant Sharma, Dy.SP alongwith Civil Defence wardens reviewed the working of CD warden/VHGs and SDRF personnel detailed for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Duty 2012. The Dy.Controller briefed and stressed the participants to remain extra vigilant/ alert while on duty and wear CD jackets already provided to them.
  • A view of three days Civil Defence awareness camp held at ITI Rajouri w.e.f. 16th to 18th July 2012
    Rajouri: On 18-7-2012, a practical demonstration was exhibited by SDRF/Civil Defence instructors at ITI Complex Rajouri during one day awareness camp in which about 400 people participated. Shifting of casualties from double storey building through the methods of two parallel ropes with chair knots were also exhibited before the participants. On the occasion Sh.K.K.Langer, Chief Warden,Rajouri also delivered lecture on “Role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster”.
  • Poonch: Civil Defence Poonch organized five day’s Civil Defence training camp at Govt. High School Sathra, Poonch w.e.f. 23-7-2012 to 27-7-2012 during which 56 students/staff were imparted training in first aid, fire-fighting and rescue operation by SDRF / CD instructors deputed from CTI HG/CD Jammu.
  • Kathua: On 27-7-2012, one day Civil Defence awareness camp was organized by CD Kathua at Village Nagri in which Sarpanchs, Panchs, wardens and civilians participated. During the camp, the participants were briefed about the role and activities of Civil Defence during disasters and were also awared about the precautions to be taken during flash floods. They were also motivated to provide their services during any type of disasters.
  • Samba: Civil Defence Samba organized two awareness camps one at United Phosphorus Ltd. Samba and other at Hindustan Publishing Mills Ltd Samba on 30th and 31st July 2012 respectively. During the awareness camps, Civil Defence wardens were briefed about the role and importance of Civil Defence during disasters and also briefed about the loss of drinking alcohol and bad effects of smoking. A large number of workers and staff members participated in the camp.
  • Kathua: On 31-07-2012, Civil Defence Kathua organized one day awareness camp at District Police Line Kathua. During the camp Sh.Santokh Raj, Dy.SP Dy.Controller CD Kathua delivered lecture on disaster management especially during Floods. On the occasion, I/C Border Police Posts (located near flood prone areas) and Civil Defence wardens also participated in the camp.
  • Samba: On 01/08/2012, Civil Defence Samba organized one day awareness camp on first aid and fire fighting at Bharat Box Factory SIDCO Samba in which about 470 workers of factory participated. Sh.Sanjay Gupta, Dy.Chief Warden, Sh.Raj Singh and Sh.Narsing Dayal, Post wardens CD Samba were also present on the occasion. Besides, Civil Defence training cheques were also distributed among the volunteers who underwent five day’s training course.
  • Samba: On 04-8-2012, Civil Defence Samba and SDRF rescue team launched rescue operation with the help of district Police in river Basanter Samba in which three persons were trapped in flash flood and rescued Sh. Bamambar Roud S/O Kirtan Roud R/O Orrissa, Sh.Tinku Dass S/O Roop Lal R/O Jharkhand and Sh.Sudesh Roud S/O Misbal hasda R/O Jharkhan, safely from the river.
  • Kathua: On 15-8-2012, Civil Defence Kathua conducted one day awareness camp at Sports Stadium Kathua on the eve of Independence Day. The printed material / literature regarding awareness / safety measures on the subject i.e. Earthquake, fire-fighting, flood/ landslide and cyclone were distributed among the school children and CD volunteers. On the occasion, appreciation letter was presented by Hon’ble Minister Dr.Manohar Lal Sharma to Civil Defence Kathua for their good work done.
  • Rajouri: During the intervening night of 20th /21st Aug. 2012, a team of SDRF personnel stationed at Rajouri was deputed to Sukhota Nallah where some persons were found trapped during flash flood. During the rescue operation, about 15 labourers and police guard personnel were rescued safely by the SDRF team.
  • Samba: On 26-8-212, SDRF team of Jammu launched rescue operation at Arnia where a civilian was drowned in the canal. After a prolonged struggle/search dead body of Sh.Navjayot Singh S/O Sh.Sucha Singh R/O New Dewan Garh Arnia was fished out by the SDRF personnel.
  • Akhnoor: Civil Defence Akhnoor organized 05 day’s CD Basic training camp at Akhnoor w.e.f. 27-8-2012 to 31-8-2012 in which 58 CD volunteers were imparted training in first aid, fire-fighting and rescue operations.
  • Jammu: On 27-08-2012, Sh.Gh.Sarwar Chouhan, SSP Commandant SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu conducted a darbar of officers/officials of the Bn. During the darbar grievances of SDRF personnel were redressed on the spot and were apprised that their genuine problems beyond his competence would be brought into the notice of Senior officers. He stressed the nafri to perform their duties with dedication and show their existence for safety of general public in the event of natural/man-made disaster.
  • Poonch: During the SANJY duty 2012, SDRF personnel also remained deployed at Shri Budha Amarnath ji temple at Mandi Poonch and Sh.Dashmani Akhara temple Poonch for tackling any type of incident or disaster.
  • Samba: Civil Defence Samba organized two awareness camps one at Indo Swift Factory Samba and other at Madhu Chack Supwal on 30th and 31st August 2012 respectively. During the camps about 500 workers / civilian participated and were awared about the role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster. On the occasion Sh.Sudershan Mehta, Dy.SP Dy.Controller CD Samba and Sh.Dharamvir Singh, Chief Warden also delivered lectures on disaster management and Civil Defence. Among others, Sh.Sanjay Gupta, Dy.Chief Warden and Post Wardens Sh.Raj Singh and Sh.Narsingh Dayal were also present on both the occasions.
  • Kathua: During Sh.Amarnath Ji Yatra 2012, Civil Defence Kathua established two camps for the assistance of Amarnath Yatries one at Chann Arrorain Kathua and other at Lakhanpur w.e.f. 22-6-2012. During the camp, Civil Defence/SDRF personnel extend assistance and guidance to the yatries about the route of their journey, climate and other necessary information. During the SANJY duty Civil Defence / SDRF personnel also conducted a many search and rescue operations in District Kathua.
  • Budgam: Civil Defence Budgam organised 05 day’s Basic CD training course at Govt. Boys High School Sanoor Kalipora, Beerawha, in the month of July 2012. During the camp, about 375 CD volunteers were imparted training in various Civil Defence skills. The Commandant NDRF 7th Bn. Punjab conducted the area familiarization exercise in different institutes of District Budgam with the help of officers/officials of SDRF personnel and Civil Defence warden/ volunteers/Staff of CD Budgam. On 29-8-2012, a dead body of a kid namely Mohd Qasim S/O Gh.Ahmad R/O Labertal Budgam was recovered from a deep well by the Civil Defence rescue team CD Budgam.
